Man charged in Wilmington shooting

WILMINGTON -- A 20-year-old Wilmington man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon after a shooting in the Houston Moore housing community just after noon Sunday.
Quaneik Allen was arrested after allegedly shooting a man who was assaulting a pregnant woman, according to a release from the Wilmington Police Department.
When Allen confronted the man, an altercation started and a short time later Allen allegedly shot the man.
He was arrested a short time later.
The victim, a male is in stable condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, according to the release.
Police said the pregnant woman was taken to the hospital. No word on her condition.
The case remains under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
