“There is no pain/ When you’re wrapped in cellophane,” Grace Koon snarls during the chorus of “Cellophane,” a hypnotic song on garage rock trio Grace Vonderkuhn’s excellent 2018 album “Reveries.” It's filled with songs that will roll around in your head for a long time.

The Wilmington, Delaware, band — Brian Bartling on bass, Dave McGrory on drums and Koon on guitar and vocals — has a hook-filled sound that's sometimes heavy, sometimes hazy. Echoing early '90s rock, it’s a suicide-soda concoction of sweet and bitter, like some combination of PJ Harvey, Brody Dalle, Pixies and Weezer.

On the band's first trek South touring behind “Reveries,” they’ll play Gravity Records in Wilmington on April 27 with local band Team Player and Maryland's Two Hours. Grace Vonderkuhn’s songs are built on big, blazing guitar riffs and the less-is-more lyricism of “Crazy All The Time,” the Western-tinged “Lion” or the fuzzed-out crunch of “Something to Say.”

Koon is a strong vocal presence who said she’s always felt compelled to perform but hasn't always been confident about it. That's kind of what her song “Worry” is about, an inspired piece of ear candy whose siren-guitar wails and refrain (“It’s not that serious/ It’s all in your head”) form a smart piece of songcraft.

“I’m an anxious person and I wrote it to help myself get out of my own head," Koon said. "It’s actually still fun to play live, especially the solo toward the end.”
