The Jacksonville Police Department has arrested a man in connection with Wednesday’s fatal shooting.

JPD named Tyquan Sykree Hayes as a suspect in the shooting late Wednesday in a press release. In a separate press release around 3 a.m. Friday, the police department stated Hayes had been found at a hotel in Wilmington and charged with an open count of murder.

Detectives saw Hayes leaving the hotel and took him into custody around 10 p.m. Thursday without incident with the assistance of the Wilmington Police Department, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the State Bureau of Investigation, according to the release.

The investigation also led to Mieonna Diasia Jackson, 21, of Jacksonville being charges with harboring a fugitive after she was allegedly found with Hayes. Jackson is being held under a $2,500 bond at the Onslow County Jail, according to the release.

Hayes is accused of shooting 23-year-old Da’shaun J. Pearsall, of Willard, in the 1200 block of Davis Street in Jacksonville around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Though first responders immediately began CPR when they arrived, Pearsall died at the scene.

“The assistance from our Federal and State partners as well as the Wilmington Police Department was instrumental in bringing in Hayes safely,” JPD Lt. Richard Kellum is quoted as saying in the release.

Hayes is being held at the Onslow County Jail without bond.

“This remains an active and open investigation with additional charges anticipated,” JPD Investigations Captain Mike Capps is quoted as saying in the release.
