SOUTHEASTERN, N.C. -- Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard will hold its semiannual community food drive, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at six Harris Teeter stores in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties. Volunteers from area churches and organizations will be outside the stores collecting nonperishable food from shoppers.

Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard is an emergency food pantry that serves those who are hungry in the Wilmington area. The cupboard is open 1-3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and is located at 315 Red Cross St. in downtown Wilmington.

Once a month, any needy individual or family can come to Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard to receive a three-five day supply of groceries. People without stoves receive a smaller bag and are served weekly.

Mother Hubbard's Cupboard is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency and has no paid staff. It operates entirely through the efforts of hundreds of volunteers with a working board of directors whose members personally supervise daily management activities. It thrives due to the generosity and support of people and organizations in Southeastern North Carolina. Not only is food received from the government The Emergency Food Assistance Program, but is also obtained during quarterly food drives at local grocery stores, and through donations from churches, civic groups, and individuals. With donated funds, food is purchased at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and local grocery stores.
