A Wilmington man has been charged with attempted murder after setting a car on fire while a man slept inside.

Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 2600 block of McClammy Street in reference to a vehicle on fire.

According to Wilmington police, Warren Clarkson had doused the vehicle with gasoline and set it on fire while a 65-year-old man slept inside.

The victim suffered minor burns, but was able to get out.

Clarkson was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder, burning personal property, possession of drug paraphernalia, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Police believe this was an isolated incident, since the victim and suspect knew each other.

Clarkson is being held at the New Hanover County jail under a $505,000 secured bond.
