Wilmington-area things to do Easter weekend

Sunday: Sunrise service
Many area churches are planning sunrise services for Easter morning. One of the largest will be an ecumenical service at Beach Access No. 19 at Wrightsville Beach. Afterward, participants are invited to Little Chapel on the Boardwalk for coffee and doughnuts. Details: 6:30 a.m. April 21 at Beach Access No. 19 (end of Oxford Street), Wrightsville Beach. Parking is available at Atlantic Marine, 2035 Eastwood Road, with trolley service to the beach. Co-sponsored by Little Chapel on the Boardwalk (Presbyterian), Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, St. Andrews on-the-Sound Episcopal Church, St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, Wrightsville Beach Baptist Church and Wrightsville Beach Methodist Church. Free; open to all.

Saturday: Easter egg hunt
Naturally, lots of area churches and civic groups are throwing Easter egg hunts this weekend. Leland Parks and Recreation will hold a community hunt Saturday morning at Northwest District Park. Youngsters will be divided into six age groups, from toddlers (12 months or younger) to 8-to-10-year-olds. The Easter Bunny is expected to make an appearance. Details: 10 a.m.-noon April 20 at Northwest District Park, 1937 Andrew Jackson Highway NE, Leland. Free. 910-408-3092.

If you missed David Sedaris' talk Monday at UNCW, there's still a chance to get some exposure. TheatreNow is staging "The Book of Liz," the comedy Sedaris wrote with his actress sister Amy. The plot involves cheese balls, perspiration and a secluded religious community known as The Squeamish. Details: 7 p.m. April 19-20 at TheatreNow, 19 S. 10th St., Wilmington. Although it's a picture book, it's not for children; rather it's a parable of adult relationships, communication and being authentic. Meanwhile, the Little Explorers program will be studying the science behind eggs. Details: Easter egg drop -- 1-3 p.m. April 20 at Cape Fear Museum, 814 Market St. Free.
