So, at times with new dishes, I can get away with stretching the boundaries and limitations of many of my recipes. This week is no different. I'm cooking up a blue-on-blue cheeseburger. This tasty treat is packed with flavor and a nice, smooth and sweet blueberry sauce poured over top of some great flavors inside the burger. Give this tasty treat a try and remember to bring your best blueberry recipe up to the Depot in Burgaw on Friday, June 15, to take part in the N.C. Blueberry Festival's recipe contest. www.ncBlueberryFestival.com. BLUEBERRY SAUCE 1 pint blueberries 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons honey 1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper In a small skillet heat the blueberries, brown sugar, vinegar, honey and crushed red pepper. Once heated, add to a food processor or blender and liquefy. BLUEBERRY BURGER 2 pounds Angus beef 4 cloves chopped garlic 1 pound blue cheese 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce 2 tablespoons Heinz 57 sauce 1 tablespoon fresh-ground black pepper 1 chopped jalapeño Miracle Whip Light 1 red onion 1 large, fresh garden tomato 4 sesame seed buns Romaine lettuce In a mixing bowl, add the beef, seasoning, sauces, a half pound of chunked blue cheese and the cooked and chopped jalapeno pepper. Mix everything together well in the mixing bowl and form four half-pound patties. Place on the grill for five to 10 minutes on each side, turning a quarter half way through for great grill marks. While you are cooking the burger add the red onion to the grill and cook until soft. Toast your sesame seed buns and spread Miracle Whip Light on each side. Add romaine lettuce and fresh tomato to the bottom bun. Add the burger, the rest of the blue cheese, and pour on the blueberry sauce.
