Austin traffic really is the worst.

According to a new study by transportation data company INRIX, drivers spent more time driving in Austin traffic than anywhere else in Texas in 2018. Rankings were calculated by analyzing the average time spent in traffic and the cost for drivers based on median household income data from the U.S Department of Transportation.

Just below cities like Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, the study ranks Austin as the 14th most congested city in the United States and the 84th worldwide. The study says Austinites lost an average of 104 hours per year or $1,452 per person in 2018 because of the traffic.

While Houston comes in just ahead of Austin as the 13th most congested city nationwide, Austin has it beat in both time spent in congestion and cost per person. However, Houston lost three times as much to congestion in overall cost, according to INRIX.

According to the study, which also calculated the average speeds of commuters. Austin drivers drove an average of 24 mph during peak traffic times and just over 46 mph during less-congested hours.
