UPDATE: Austin's Target stores back online after earlier global outage
4:45 p.m. update: Target said cash registers at all of its stores are back online after a temporary outage on Saturday that caused long delays at many locations. Customers are able to make purchases again, the company said.
Target said the temporary outage, which lasted about two hours on Saturday, including in Austin, was the result of "an internal technology issue."
"Our technology team worked quickly to identify and fix the issue, and we apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this caused for our guests," the company said in a statement.
Target said they conducted a thorough review and said that the outage was not related to a data breach or any other security-related issue and that no customer information was compromised.
Austin stores were reporting that they were back open and doing business as usual by 3 p.m.
Earlier: Target stores across the globe are seeing backups on Saturday after cash registers went down in the afternoon.
The company said on Twitter at 2:08 p.m. that customers were "unable to make purchases" but did not elaborate what happened.
"Our teams are troubleshooting now, and we apologize for the inconvenience," the post said. "We will provide an update as soon as possible."
People reported on social media that registers were down at some Austin stores, causing long lines. By 3 p.m., the Arboretum store in North Austin was back up and running, its manager said. The East Austin store on Interstate 35 near U.S. 290 was also restored, a staff member said.
Target has not provided additional updates.
