Matthew Gonzalez, 18, is charged with murder in connection with the killing of James Anthony Walker on July 13.

Austin police on Monday identified a teenager accused of killing a 38-year-old man in a Southeast Austin apartment complex in July.

Authorities said they arrested 18-year-old Matthew Gonzalez on July 31 and charged him with murder in connection with the death of James Anthony Walker two weeks earlier on July 13. Walker died in the hospital after police found him with injuries at an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Wickersham Lane.

Police said Gonzalez was being held at the Travis County Correctional Complex in Del Valle on Monday with bail set at $1 million.

Austin police said last month that they believed Walker’s killing was in connection with his car, which had been stolen three days before the incident.

Police have said that officers on July 13 had received multiple reports of shots being fired at the apartment complex.
