Memorial Day weekend isn't just about getting a day off work, it's about honoring those who have died while serving in the military.

Here's a roundup of services in the Mid-Valley, plus some other events: 

Services

Corvallis: Memorial Day program, 2 p.m. Monday, May 27, National Guard Armory, 1100 NW Kings Blvd. Free. 541-753-6410.

Dallas: Program featuring more than 700 flags, Color Guard, the Dallas High School choir and band and Mayor Brian Dalton, 11 a.m. Monday, May 27, Dallas Cemetery, 2065 SW Fairview Avenue. Free. 503-623-3727.

Mt. Angel: Organized by the American Legion Mt. Angel Post No. 89, this annual Memorial Day service is to remember those who died in active military service. 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, Calvary Cemetery, 1015 N Main St. (may take place at St. Mary Catholic Church, 575 E College St. due to weather); Veterans are invited to take part in a march to Calvary Cemetery beginning at 8:30 a.m. and a reception a reception for veterans and their families following the service at Legion Hall, 740 E College St. 503-845-6119.

Salem: A statewide Memorial Day celebration organized by the Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs featuring speaker David Solomon, presentation of the colors, Pledge of Allegiance and the playing of TAPS, 3 p.m. Monday, May 27, Afghan-Iraqi Freedom Memorial, 700 Summer St. NE. Free.

Other things to do 

Let Freedom Ring — Celebrating Polk County Veterans: Features a parade, the Blessing of the Bikes, live music, vendors, arts, crafts and the presentation of a banner for those "Killed in Action," 10 a.m. Sunday, May 26, Falls City. Free admission. micc-or.org.

Trinity Vineyards: Annual open house featuring new wines, munchies and live music, noon to 6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, May 25-26, Trinity Vineyards, 1031 Wahl Lane S. $15. 503-371-6977 or trinityvineyards.com.

Summer Music Series: Memorial Day weekend will kick-off “Music on the Willamette” with live “soul fix’n blues” music from The Ted Vaughn Blues Band, plus wine, Oregon craft beers and the food truck Coin Operated Boy, live music from 1 to 4 p.m., event from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 26, Arcane Cellars, 22350 Magness Road NW. $5 cover. Camping in the vineyard is available, call 503-868-7076 for reservations. arcanecellars.com.

Airlie Winery will be open for Memorial Day weekend, May 25-27.
