Passing ambulance spots fire at two Aumsville homes

A fire at two Aumsville homes on Sunday, August 2.

A passing ambulance spotted smoke over a neighborhood on the east end of Aumsville Sunday.

Crews were dispatched to the 9900 block of Puma Street SE at 2:18 p.m. on a report of two homes on fire, according to a statement by the Aumsville Rural Fire Department.

Due to the size and location of the fire, a second and third alarm was called.

The first crew on the scene reported one home fully engulfed in fire. A neighboring home was also on fire but being kept at bay by bystanders with a garden hose.

Twenty four firefighters responded to the scene and had the fire extinguished within about 40 minutes, said Chief Roy Hari.

Both homes were unoccupied and no injuries were reported.

Aumsville Rural Fire Department was assisted by Stayton Fire, Turner Fire District and Sublimity Fire.
