Four residents escape 2-alarm house fire in Macleay area
Update 5 p.m.
Four residents escaped from a house fire early Thursday morning that started in the garage of a two-story home in Macleay. A small dog did not make it out, officials said.
Around 6:30 a.m., Marion County Fire District 1 firefighters answered a report of heavy fire and smoke coming from a home in the 1400 block of 82nd Avenue SE.
A second alarm was called, bringing in units from Aumsville, Turner and Silverton fire districts and Falck Ambulance to assist.
Firefighters battled with flames for about 45 minutes before bringing the fire under control, according to Marion County fire officials.
A total of 33 firefighters and paramedics responded with five fire engines, one heavy rescue and three water tenders.
Firefighters were on scene for about five and a half hours extinguishing the flames and conducting an investigation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Marion County Fire District 1 Fire Marshal.
Silverton Fire District and Salem Fire Department provided coverage to the rest of Marion County during the incident.
The Red Cross is assisting the residents.

Crews from Marion County Fire District 1 responded to a report of a house fire in the 1400 block of 82nd Avenue SE just after 6:30 a.m., according to dispatch records.
A second alarm was called and units from Aumsville, Turner and Silverton fire districts and Falck Ambulance responded to assist.
