Original story:

Stayton police are investigating after a teenage boy died Thursday afternoon in Stayton from a gunshot wound.

Officers responded to a house around noon, according to a release from Oregon State Police. Officials have not released more information.

North Santiam School District staff and students were not in any danger, according to a Facebook post from the school district. But students from Stayton high and middle schools were temporarily held in classes. Families were notified and allowed to pick up their child.

The school district will bring in the Willamette Education Service District Regional Crisis Counseling team to both schools Friday for students in need of support.

Oregon State Police, Marion County Sherriff's Office and Salem Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit are assisting with the investigation.
