A pickup pulling a boat caught fire on northbound Interstate 5 Sunday evening.

Units were dispatched for a report of a vehicle fire near milepost 263, under the Quinaby Road NE overpass, at 7:38 p.m., according to a statement by Marion County Fire District #1.

Units responding reported the smoke column was visible from about two miles from the scene which prompted a water tanker to be dispatched for additional water.

When the first engine arrived, a pickup was found fully engulfed by flames on the right shoulder.

Units from Marion County Fire District #1 responded to a vehicle fire on I-5 on a Sunday in June 2019.

All occupants made it safely out of the pickup and no injuries were reported in the incident according to the department.

Officials say the fire was thought to be caused by a mechanical malfunction.

At least one northbound lane was blocked for the response.
