Crews battle single-story residential fire in Northeast Salem

Firefighters are battling a single-story house fire in Northeast Salem. 

The fire was reported around 5 p.m. in the 3300 block of Monarch Drive NE, according to Deputy Chief Gabriel Benmoussa with Salem Fire Department.

A resident was able to evacuate safely, according to Benmoussa. The Red Cross was called to help with housing for three displaced residents, according to a post on Salem Fire's Facebook page. 

Firefighters have not yet determined the cause of the fire, but the fire originated in the kitchen and may have spread to the attic. 

Eight units are at the scene.
