Downtown Salem has a new mural.

Illustrator Boz Schurr transformed a 65-foot stretch of wall next to an entrance of the Salem Center into a Pacific Northwest-themed piece of art.

"Salem, Oregon" is painted over bright, vibrant geometric shapes with ferns, pine cones and other PNW characteristics added in throughout.

And, don't worry, there is a photo opportunity for all selfie needs. People can pose with an umbrella incorporated into the design.

A completed 65-foot mural at the Salem Center, from Salem-native artist Boz Schurr, as shown on July 13, 2019.

The mural is in the North building's lower-level at the mall entrance on the corner of High Street and Center Street NE.

Schurr, a Salem-native, has created dozens of murals. She currently lives in Honolulu where she works as an art history and illustration teacher at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama.

Her artistic philosophy is to inspire happiness with her art.

"I would love the opportunity to add more murals to Salem," Schurr said.

Logan Burt, marketing and specialty leasing manager for Salem Center, said they wanted to brighten up the bare wall, and Schurr was recommended to them by the Salem Art Association.
