Victims of the motorcycle vs. car crash in South Salem identified, 3 sent to hospital

Three people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries late Tuesday afternoon following a crash involving a car and a motorcycle in South Salem. 

The accident occurred around 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of Battle Creek Road and Kuebler Boulevard SE, according to  Lt. Treven Upkes with Salem Police Department. 

Kathleen Walter, 72, of Salem, who was driving a Volkswagon, was heading eastbound on Kuebler Boulevard getting ready to turn left onto Battle Creek Road heading northbound.

A motorcycle, driven by Scott Carriger, 30, of Salem, was heading westbound on Kuebler. Walter turned in front of the motorcycle, according to Upkes. 

The intersection was closed until around 8 p.m. while the police department's traffic team investigated the crash. 

Carriger and his passenger, Haylee Carriger, 30, were taken to Salem Health after suffering serious leg injuries. 

Walter was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
