Following measurable rain during four of the last six days in Salem, crews will be adding an additional day of work to the Interstate 5 paving schedule.

Paving work will now be extended to Saturday nights until the end of September, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The nightly closures, now Saturday to Friday, will follow this schedule: One lane will be closed as early as 7 p.m. until 9 a.m. the following morning and two lanes could be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning.

Work is currently focused on paving southbound lanes between Woodburn and Salem.

Officials say progress to pave the 12-mile section is over two-thirds complete and still expected to be completed by the end of September. However wet weather could further impact progress.

Rumble strips and lane striping will be completed following the completion of paving work.
