Salem fire officials recovered the body of a deceased individual from a shallow area off the east bank of the Willamette River in Salem on Friday.
Salem Deputy Fire Chief Gabe Benmoussa identified the person as a man, possibly in his 40s. He confirmed the man died. The call came in at about 11:15 a.m.
Salem Fire's water rescue team responded, Benmoussa said, though the circumstances surrounding the death were not immediately clear.
The body was an estimated 20 feet from the east bank of the Willamette in a shallow area of the river near Pine and Front streets NE, Benmoussa said.
