Hubbard teen dies, Salem teen to hospital in single-vehicle crash on Highway 214 near Silverton

A Hubbard teen died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night on Highway 214 near Silverton. 

Troopers responded to a crash around 8 p.m. near Forest Ridge Road NE, according to Oregon State Police.

A gold Chevrolet Blazer was traveling northbound on the highway when the car left the roadway for an "unknown reason" and rolled, investigators said. 

The driver, a 16-year-old girl from Hubbard, died at the scene. The passenger, a 16-year-old girl from Salem, was taken to Silverton Hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities are investigating speed and the failure to wear a seat belt as possible contributing factors.

Silverton Police Department, Silverton Fire Department, Hubbard Police Department, and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted Oregon State Police during the incident.
