Motorcyclist injured, taken to hospital after Silverton Road NE crash

Police released more details about a crash involving a motorcycle that partially closed Silverton Road NE at Hawthorne Avenue NE last week. 

Salem Police officers responded to the three-vehicle crash around 2:30 p.m. Nov. 8.

A 28-year-old Salem woman, who was driving heading west in a Pontiac sedan on Silverton Road, was waiting to turn left onto Hawthorne Avenue, according to Lt. Debbie Aguilar, a spokeswoman for the police department. 

A motorcycle, driven by a 36-year-old Salem man was heading east on Silverton Road,

As the motorcyclist crossed the intersection, the driver of the Pontiac turned in front of the motorcycle and was struck.  

The crash caused the driver of the Pontica to strike a Volkwagon that was behind the motorcycle, Aguilar said. 

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 61-year-old woman driving the Volkswagon was suffered minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital. There were no other injuries reported.

A crash involving a motorcycle and vehicle has partially closed Silverton Road NE at Hawthorne Avenue NE, Salem police said.

The motorcyclist was taken to Salem Hospital after suffering serious injuries, said Salem police Lt. Michael Bennett.

Westbound lanes of Hawthorne Avenue NE remain open, Bennett said, but most other traffic is affected.

"The road will be closed for an undetermined amount of time," he said. "The cause of the crash is being investigated and everyone involved remained on scene."
