Four deputies involved in the Jan. 19  shooting that killed Mark Gago were cleared by the Clackamas County Grand Jury on Tuesday.

Gago, 42, killed four family members, including a 9-month-old child, using a sword and other similar weapons in a rural Woodburn home.

Authorities say Gago was attempting to kill an 8-year-old-girl when deputies arrived on the scene and shot him.

The girl and 40-year-old Tracy Burbank, a roommate, were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Six Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies were placed on administrative leave during the investigation conducted by the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team, including investigators from Canby Police, Oregon State Police and the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office.

The four deputies who "used deadly force" will be returning to duty, but it's unclear when, according to Sgt. Dan Kraus, public information officer for the Sheriff's Office.

The other two, a supervisor and a back-up deputy, are still on leave, Kraus said.
