Salem man charged for an armed robbery at GameStop, linked to other robberies

The man suspected of robbing a GameStop store in Salem Center has been arrested and charged in that and five other robberies.

Jehu Herrera, 19, of Salem, is being held in lieu of $250,000 at the Marion County jail on six counts of second-degree burglary. The crimes occurred between January and February, according to court records. 

On the afternoon of Jan. 26, two GameStop employees at the Salem Center Mall said Herrera was looking at a Sony Play Station 4 game console, according to a probable cause statement.

They told police he left, then came back to the store five to 10 minutes later with a pistol, described as similar to a Glock. Herrera demanded the PS4 and fled north from the mall. 

Police later found the PS4 packaging in a stairwell in the parking structure north of the mall. Parking structure surveillance footage also showed Herrera running in the direction of the stairwell wearing the same clothes described by witnesses. 

On Feb. 3, Salem Police officers arrested Herrera as he fled after allegedly robbing a marijuana dispensary at 1040 Commercial St. SE.

Herrera told police he robbed the GameStop and was involved in other robberies, according to the PC statement. 

Herrera was also charged for armed robberies on Jan. 2, Jan. 24 and two on Jan. 28 in Marion County, according to court documents. 

His next court appearance is at 8:15 a.m. on March 19. Herrera has no previous arrests in Oregon. 

Second-degree robbery is a Measure 11 crime that carries a minimum mandatory sentence of five years and eight months.
