Two from Salem arrested after Cloverdale bank robbery

A man and woman from the Salem-Keizer area are in custody after officials say they robbed a bank in the rural coastal town of Cloverdale.

Oregon State Police troopers and deputies from Tillamook County Sheriff's office responded to a report of an armed bank robbery at a US Bank along Highway 101 at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Lt. Cari Boyd with state police.

The suspects were identified by officials as Matthew Buswell, 36, and Cassandra Maughan, 34.

By the time police had arrived the suspects had fled but were located after a pursuit on a forest service road northwest of town.

According to officials, the suspects struck an Oregon State Police vehicle and exchanged gunfire with troopers before being taken into custody.

The suspects were then transported to a hospital for evaluation following injuries sustained in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

Buswell was charged with robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of a firearm, theft, three counts of menacing and tampering with evidence.

Maughan was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Both are being held at the Tillamook County Jail.

Tillamook County Sheriff's office is currently leading the investigation with the assistance of Tillamook Police Department and the FBI.
