Salem man arrested, charged with theft after Waldport resident reports vehicle break-ins

A Salem man was charged with stealing property from two cars Friday in Waldport after a concerned resident tipped off authorities. 

Around 7:20 a.m., Lincoln County Sheriff's Office deputies received a call about a man who was cutting through residents' yards in the area of NW Oceanview Drive. 

The suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Fedosey Kasachev, was seen wearing all black clothing with a hood pulled up and carrying a backpack, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Authorities said Kasachev also was seen trying to break into unoccupied homes.

While responding to the call, Deputy Cody Tadlock received a report about a car theft in the Mokmak Lake area where a man was seen taking several items from a car parked in front of a house. 

Following an initial investigation, Kasachev was arrested for allegedly stealing items from two vehicles at the same house. The stolen property - sunglasses, a garage door opener and a Kindle - was returned to the owners. 

Kasachev was charged with giving false information to a police officer, two counts of unlawful entry to a motor vehicle, two counts of second-degree criminal trespass, first-degree attempted burglary and second-degree theft.

He was taken to Lincoln County Jail and his bail was set at $135,000.He has an arrest warrant in Marion County for resisting arrest and is expected to be transported to Salem within a few days.

Deputies are searching for a woman who is potentially linked to the alleged crimes, according to Sgt. Karl Vertner with the sheriff's office.
