Police tracking suspect who stole generator from Willamette Humane Society in Salem

Salem Police are looking for a suspect who took a $30,000 generator overnight Saturday from the Willamette Humane Society.

Employees arrived Sunday morning to find a fence around the dog walker's field cut and a generator, rented from Sunbelt Rentals, missing, according to a press release from the humane society.

The generator was being stored in behind a locked and fenced area within the dog-walking yard with other rented equipment used at the non-profit's Food Truck Frenzy event Friday evening, Andersen said.

But "it was meant to keep dogs in, not thieves out," she said. "It breaks my heart."

The generator was being stored in a locked and fenced area within the dog-walking yard, Willamette Humane Society executive director BJ Andersen said.

The generator was used to power live music amps and lights during the event and was supposed to be returned to Sunbelt Rentals on Monday.

The Willamette Humane Society is located at 4246 Turner Road in Salem. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Salem Police Department's non-emergency line at 503-588-6123.
