Salem police investigate shooting near McDonald's on Hawthorne

Salem police are investigating a shooting in north Salem after a man with a gunshot wound was found in the drive-thru of a McDonald's Wednesday night. 

Police responded to the McDonald's at Hawthorne Avenue NE and Market Street NE at 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. 

Salem police spokesman Lt. Treven Upkes said officers arrived and located the male victim, who was being helped by passersby, in the drive-thru area.

"It was determined that the male had been shot at a different location and walked to McDonald's before collapsing due to his injuries," Upkes said in a statement. 

Police did not identify the victim, who was taken to Salem Hospital for treatment. His condition is currently unknown. 

Detectives were called in to work the case. Upkes said the investigation is ongoing. More details will be released as they become available
