Woodburn-area residents were asked to take shelter in their homes Saturday night while police searched for a burglary suspect.

Marion Area Multi-agency Emergency Telecommunications reported heavy police activity in the area of Miller, Mt Angel Gervais and Howell Prairie roads NE.

The shelter in place advisory was issued around 8 p.m. after Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted a Jeep Wrangler that was stolen during a burglary on Friday at a Woodburn home, according to Tommy Moore, a spokesman for the City Of Woodburn.

Several firearms also were taken from the home, Moore said. The residents were not home.

While deputies were in pursuit, the suspect driving the Jeep went off-road, abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Area residents were asked to lock their doors and windows, and report suspicious activity to police.

The suspect was not located and the advisory was lifted around 11:20 p.m.

Officials do not have a description of the suspect at the moment, Moore said.

Marion County and Clackamas County sheriff's offices are assisting Woodburn Police with the investigation.

The story will be updated when more information is available.
