Salem police search for arson suspect who set fire at Waldo Middle School

A fire intentionally set at Waldo Middle School caused $250,000 in damage on April 29, 2020.

Salem police are searching for an arson suspect who set a fire at Waldo Middle School on April 29, causing $250,000 in damage. 

The Salem Police Department, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help in identifying the man suspected of starting the blaze at the school, located on 2805 Lansing Ave. NE.

The arson occurred around 4:30 a.m. on April 29. 

Detectives were able to obtain video of the man believed to be involved.

In the video, the suspect can be seen walking back to the area where the fire began. The renovations materials at the school were set ablaze and the fire quickly spread to 18 pallets of material.

The man in the video can be seen leaving as the fire starts to grow.

A few minutes later, at the nearby Washington Elementary School on 3165 Lansing Ave. NE, the man is seen again on video attempting to set a portable trailer on fire. 

He is described as a white man in his late teens to early twenties wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and shorts.

Crime Stoppers of Oregon is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 cash for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in any unsolved felony crime.
