YMCA Used Book Sale set for July 19-21

It may be your last chance to take part of a 65-year tradition: the YMCA Used Book Sale.

The sale is set for Friday, July 19, to Sunday, July 21, with a chance to help set up on Thursday, July 18. Book worms will descend on the Salem Family YMCA Gymnasium, 685 Court St. NE.

Fred Patron of the YMCA Service Club said this could be the last sale after a 65-year run, as the Salem Family YMCA will soon vacate its existing buildings before a new facility is constructed. The book sale's future is uncertain.

The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.Friday and Saturday before wrapping up Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As always, there will be plenty of great deals on books. Nothing will be priced over $1.25. Customers can also fill a grocery bag for $3, fill a box for $5 or purchase a pre-filled “mystery box” for $4. Books that survive until Sunday will be marked down. Only cash or checks will be accepted.

The sale will feature books, puzzles, games and electronic media. Books will be sorted into around 30 categories for your shopping convenience.

Have some time on Thursday and want to help — or want first dibs on the deals? You can sign up between 4 and 5 p.m. Thursday, July 18, to help set up the sale floor until about 7 p.m. Once set up is complete, volunteers will have 30 minutes to purchase up to two boxes of books at regular sale prices.

Volunteers are also needed to help restock tables during the sale.

For information, or to sign up as a volunteer, visit the Salem YMCA registration desk or call 503-581-9622.
