Salem String Quartet named Camerata Musica's Quartet in Residence
Abby LuscheiFor the next three years, the Salem String Quartet will be Camerata Musica's Quartet in Residence.
After more than four decades of operation, this is the first time Camerata Musica, a local organization that provides free chamber music concerts in the Mid-Valley, has appointed an ensemble in residence.
As the Quartet in Residence, the Salem String Quartet, a local group founded in 2017, will perform a concert each year as part of Camerata Musica's concert series, as well as participating in other events hosted by the music organization.
Camerata Musica, founded by Lydia Woods and Miriam Bednarz, hosts free chamber music events annually, including nine performances in Loucks Auditorium at the Salem Public Library.
George Struble, the Camerata Musica Board president since 2001, said he looks forward to making chamber music a stronger part of life in the Mid-Valley by working with the Salem String Quartet.
"To be associated with Camerata Musica's 40 years of building this wonderful community of music lovers here in Salem, I can't help but be even more inspired to perform the incredible library of string literature with my colleagues," violist Brandon Correa said.
Correa, cellist Katherine Parks and married-violinists Caius and Sigrun Oprea make up the quartet. The four members met while performing in and around Salem since 2008, and the group naturally came together, according to a press release from Camerata Musica.
The Salem String Quartet has been performing around the Mid-Valley since June 2017.
