Joseph “Clarence” Adams was born in Charleston, Arkansas, on Dec. 12, 1928, to Nick and Annie Adams. When he was less than one year old, the family moved to Canute, Oklahoma, where he learned to work hard at an early age, helping his dad and brothers repair windmills, butcher hogs, farm and carpentry work.

After graduating from Holy Family School, Clarence farmed before joining the Air Force in 1951. He met and married Gloria Tunnell in 1953 in Little Rock, Arkansas. They lived in Oregon for several years before going back to Arkansas, where he bought a farm. Returning to Oregon again in 1966, CJ went to work for his brother, Mike, until he retired in 1994. Although he never had any children of his own, Clarence enjoyed his 55 nieces and nephews. He and Gloria were also foster parents and sponsored AFS students.

CJ was active in the Stayton Kiwanis and a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish.

Sandra Lynn Steinkamp

Sept. 15, 1975 — July 2, 2017

Born to William and Doneva (Fery) Steinkamp in Santa Clara, California, Sandra grew up in the Bay Area and graduated from University of Santa Barbara.
