About 280 Aumsville Elementary School students gathered on a foggy Wednesday morning to take part in the semi-annual Bike/Walk to School event.

It’s become a twice-annual event, and it’s difficult to gauge who enjoys Aumsville’s “Bike/Walk to School” more, the elementary school kids or the assisting public safety crews.

This past week’s Bike/Walk was the third installment with Aumsville Elementary School kids and Aumsville Police Department involved, taking place Wednesday, Oct. 25. It included 280 kids, school staff, parents and eight Aumsville Police Department members.

“Kids love this event, and we get a kick out of assisting with it,” said Aumsville Police Sgt. Damian Flowers. “This is the third time that we’ve helped out with Bike to School, and each time we get more participants.”

Aumsville PD directs the swarm through town to keep it moving smoothly and safely. Flowers said a piece of the outing involves a quick stop at Aumsville Rural Fire Department for water and a restroom break.

“The fire department was more than willing to accommodate and arrange for us,” Flowers said.

Aumsville PD also noted appreciation via social media to local motorists for their forbearance:

"Thank you to the motorists for being observant for the kids and to their patience as they were held up for a few minutes."
