Stayton's Marri Martinez has won the Statesman Journal Athlete of the Week in an online poll of readers.

Martinez had 17 points and 10 rebounds in a big 46-36 win against Philomath last Tuesday. She also had 16 points and eight rebounds in a 43-26 win at Newport. The Eagles share the Oregon West Conference lead with a 7-1 league record.

Other nominees were Western Christian's Keaton Hull, South Salem's Hilary James and McNary's Boston Smith.

Hull helped Western Christian remain a top contender for a state championship at the Class 2A level, James helped South Salem take over first place in the Mountain Valley Conference, and Smith helped McNary upset South Salem.

He had 15 points against Colton on Monday, and 18 points against Sheridan on Wednesday. Western Christian finished last week with a 23-1 overall record and was rated No. 2 in the OSAA Class 2A rankings.

South Salem's Hilary James.

She had 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals to lead South Salem past McNary last Thursday. She then had 10 points, three rebounds, seven assists and one steal in a win against Mountain View on Saturday. The Saxons now lead the Mountain Valley Conference with a 7-1 league record coming into this week.

In a 59-57 upset win against South Salem, he shot 8 for 8 from the field, had 19 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for the Celtics.
