OSAA roundup: South Salem boys fifth at state; Silverton, Stayton place third

South Salem's boys basketball team fell 80-63 to Lake Oswego on Saturday to place fifth at the OSAA Class 6A state tournament at Chiles Center.

Josh Angle had 28 points for Lake Oswego in the win. Jaden Nielsen-Skinner had 21 points to lead the Saxons.

South Salem, which won the Mountain Valley Conference, finishes the season with a 23-6 overall record. 

At the state tournament, the Saxons beat Tigard on Wednesday in the quarterfinals, before losing to Jefferson on Friday in the semifinals to set up Saturday's third-place game matchup with Lake Oswego.

Jefferson and Jesuit play later Saturday in the state championship game.

Class 5A tournament

Boys

Silverton 60, Willamette 41: The Foxes placed third in the OSAA Class 5A state tournament with the victory against Willamette on Saturday. David Gonzales had 23 points, six rebounds and two assists for Silverton in the win.

Class 4A tournament

Boys

Stayton 49, Woodburn 42: The Eagles dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Woodburn 23-6, to win 49-42 and capture third place at the OSAA Class 4A state tournament. Kaleb Anundi had 15 points to lead Stayton, and Riley Nichol added 13 points. RJ Veliz had a game-high 18 points for Woodburn, which placed fifth in the tournament.

North Marion 77, Marist 65: The Huskies placed fourth in the state tournament with the victory against Marist. Sergio Jimenez finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds to lead North Marion.

Girls

North Marion 48, Banks 38: The Huskies placed fourth at state with the win against Banks. Mya Hammack had 15 points to lead North Marion, and Raymee Boese had eight points and 20 rebounds for the Huskies.
