Stayton's Ben Rash voted SJ Athlete of the Week

Ben  Rash of Stayton High School has been voted Athlete of the Week in a poll of Statesman Journal readers, beating out athletes from North Salem, Blanchet and another athlete from Stayton. 

Rash threw for two touchdowns and rushed for four touchdowns in the Eagles' 49-20 win Friday against Cottage Grove. Stayton is 2-1 this season.

Here are the other nominees: 

ABIGAIL SWAIN, NORTH SALEM

Abi Swain, North Salem High School.

She finished sixth at the Meriwether Cross Country Classic on Friday with a time of 18:42.20. She currently has the second-best time among Class 5A girls in the state this season. 

MARIELLA SALDANA, BLANCHET

MarielLa Saldana, Blanchet High School

She had two goals and three assists combined in Blanchet's wins against Taft and Gervais. Blanchet leads the league with a 3-0-1 league record.

JAYDEN ESPARZA, STAYTON

Jayden Esparza, Stayton High School.

He scored the second goal for Stayton in a 2-0 victory against Woodburn. He has six goals this season for the Eagles, who lead the Oregon West Conference with a 4-0 conference record.
