West Salem’s season came to an end Friday night with a 42-31 loss at Lake Oswego in the second round of the OSAA Class 6A state playoffs.

Lake Oswego’s Casey Filkins, a Stanford commit, had five rushing touchdowns and a touchdown pass to lead the Lakers to victory.

In the loss, West Salem’s Nate Garcia had two touchdown runs. Also for the Titans, Josiah Martin returned a fumble for a touchdown, Jackson Lowery connected with Nick Paslay for a touchdown, and Cooper Johnson kicked a field goal.

West Salem led 21-14 at halftime, and led 28-14 in the second half.

The Titans finish the season with a 6-5 record.

Silverton 48, Scappoose 14

Silverton jumped out to a 36-0 lead at the half and never looked back as they cruised to an easy victory over Scappoose on Friday night at McGinnis Field in Silverton.

Hayden Roth was a battering ram for Silverton as he scored three rushing touchdowns including a 12-yarder in the second quarter where he dragged several Scappoose defenders into the end zone with him. Roth finished with 65 yards on eight carries all in the first half.

With the victory, the Foxes advance to their first state semifinal since 2014.

The defense played a stellar game and didn’t give up a touchdown until the fourth quarter when the game was well in hand.

“I think our defensive coaches did a great job of preparing us this week and the defense put us in a position to get the ball back,” Silverton head coach Josh Craig said.

The fourth seeded Foxes will need to regroup quickly as they’ll face top seeded Thurston in the OSAA Class 5A state semifinals.

“Thurston more or less has a spread offense and has been a good team the last couple of year with a veteran staff so they’ll be well prepared,” Craig said. “They’re athletic and we’re going to have to play a very good game to win.”

The semifinals will be played at Hillsboro Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 23 with a time still to be determined. The Foxes will hope to spring the upset over the Colts and keep their season alive.

“The semifinals are great, we’re happy and I’m proud of where we’re at,” Craig said. “We’ve got two more games and the next game is going to be our toughest test yet. We’re excited and if the season ended today I’d be proud of them, but I think they want more.”
