Temperatures will fall by as much as eight or nine degrees this week in sharp contrast to the mild weather which we enjoyed during the first Christmas lights switch-on events across the region in recent days.

Expect widespread frost in the coming days as some forecasters warn of snow for northern parts of the UK.

Tomorrow begins with patchy frost and temperatures expected to fall to around two degrees overnight - rising to a maximum of eight degrees.

The Met Office reckons Wednesday will be the coldest day of the week across Stoke-on-Trent, the Staffordshire Moorlands, Newcastle Borough and Stafford Borough - with daytime temperatures not expected to rise above five degrees.

A bitter wind coming in from the east will make it feel much cooler, however.


The outlook for Thursday and Friday is very similar, with daytime temperatures not rising above six or seven degrees across North Staffordshire and South Cheshire.

Some long-range forecasts suggest the colder weather will hang on throughout November and predict a bitter December - increasing chances of a white Christmas.
