Planning permission has been granted to turn a former pharmacy in a Staffordshire Moorlands village into a day nursery.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's Planning Officers have today (Friday February 22) granted planning permission to change the use of the property on 165 Cheadle Road in Cheddleton.

Work to convert the pharmacy, by Little Stars Childcare, started in November.

A total of 11 people submitted comments supporting the plans - while seven people lodged objections.

In their report planners said:  "Cheddleton is a larger village with considerable areas of housing it is also within proximity of other settlements.

"An area such as this can only be well served by competitive and available childcare helping parents return to work.

"New competition and choice is a positive, in terms of the planning balance there is no harm that derives from this.

"The presumption in favour of this sustainable development and the obvious economic and community benefit should prevail; it is not outweighed by any adverse impact."
