Police discovered the body of a 54-year-old man after forcing their way into his home.

They went to the Blurton address after a neighbour had raised concerns over the welfare of Paul Mullineux.

Emergency services were called to the property on Hinton Close, Blurton, at 3.39pm on April 14.

An inquest has now been opened and adjourned into Paul's death at Stoke's Civic Centre.

North Staffordshire assistant coroner Sarah Murphy said: "Mr Mullineux was discovered by police after they forced entry into his property as concerns had been raised by a neighbour.

"Unfortunately when police attended Mr Mullineux was deceased and a post-mortem examination has been requested. We don't have a cause of death at this stage.

"An inquest has been opened and the family will be given a progress update in six weeks time. An inquest date will be set administratively and the body of Mr Mullineux has been released for funeral purposes."

Paramedics had been called to a 'medical emergency' at the property, on Hinton Close, at 3.39pm on April 14.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Unfortunately nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
