The latest developments in the police investigation into the death of a mother and son following a horror crash are set to be revealed later today.

Five-year-old Corey Rhodes, of Fenton, was pronounced dead at the Royal Stoke University Hospital soon after last summer's devastating two-vehicle crash on Uttoxeter Road, Draycott.

His mother - 24-year-old former Cheadle High School student Rebecca Smith - lost her fight for her life a day later.

Corey's six-year-old brother - who was also in the car - managed to survive the collision and is now out of hospital.

They were in a silver BMW when it was in collision with a white Mercedes van between Blythe Bridge roundabout and Draycott Old Road, near the junction with Stuart Avenue, on Thursday, August 16.

Now a pre-inquest review into the deaths of Rebecca and Corey is set to be held at North Staffordshire Coroners' Court at 2.15pm today.

Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit have previously appealed for witnesses to come forward and were particularly keen to view any dash-cam footage.
