Police officers today stopped a driver after he threatened a fellow motorist with a knife - only to find he was also wanted for racially aggravated offences.

Officers from the Central Motorway Policing Group (CMPG) - a team made up from Staffordshire and West Midlands Police - pulled over the motorist on the M6 in Staffordshire.

They initially pulled over the motorist for reports they were threatening someone else with a knife.

But they found more than they originally bargained for.

A CMPG spokesman said: "Vehicle stopped on the M6 in Staffordshire Police area following previous reports of the occupant threatening another motorist with a Stanley knife.

"Driver spoken to and was found to be wanted for another racially aggravated offence. One for the cells please."

It has been a busy afternoon for the CMPG officers who also stopped a vehicle just off junction 15, Stoke-on-Trent after discovering it had no inusrance.
