Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a garage in Stoke-on-Trent this morning.

Two fire engines are at the scene of the blaze near Maple Court Academy in Bentilee.

The fire service say the garage roof contains asbestos, and environmental health and a structural engineer have been requested.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the fire service were called to the fire at 3.45am this morning (Monday January 28).

She said:  "There are garages that are on fire  There is asbestos in the roof of the garage.

"Two hose reel jets are in use and crews from Longton and Hanley are in attendance.

"We have requested environmental health due to the asbestos and a structural engineer from Stoke-on-Trent City Council."

Shortly after 6am firefighters confirmed a saloon car was inside one of the garages - and Staffordshire Police were also attending.
