A Stoke-on-Trent road is closed following a traffic accident involving a car and a pedestrian this evening.

Hamil Road in Burslem is shut between Stanfield Road and Moorland Road.

Inrix, the traffic data company, reports the collision involves a car and a pedestrian.

Eyewitnesses report emergency services at the scene and the road remains shut as of 10pm.

A number of people have told us the accident appears to have taken place near the high rise flats near Port Vale football club's Vale Park ground.

Staffordshire Police have confirmed one person has been taken to hospital following the accident.

A spokesman added they had been called at 7.58pm and there were currently no further updates.

It is the second reported road accident involving a car and a pedestrian in North Staffordshire this evening.

A female pedestrian was injured on Stockwell Street in Leek earlier today.

That road reopened around an hour later, with the police describing the pedestrian as 'conscious and breathing'.
