The emergency services descended onto a busy Stoke-on-Trent street this afternoon - after reports of a building fire.

Families reported firefighters and police officers on Remer Street, Cobridge, near to the health centre, shortly before 12.30pm today (April 29).

And now Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has revealed why it was called to the area.

A spokesman said: "We were called to Waterloo Road and sent one crew, from Hanley, at around 12.27pm.

"That was to a fire at a low-rise building."

One StokeonTrentLive reader reported 'a lot of police' as well as the fire service on the scene.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
