Traffic had to be temporarily held on the M6 because of a 'multi-vehicle collision'.
The busy motorway had to be closed on the northbound carriageway between junction 14, Stafford North, and junction 15, Stoke-on-Trent, at 8pm this evening.
Traffic has subsequently been released in one lane although delays are expected.
A Highways England spokesman said: "One lane now running on the M6 northbound between J14, Stafford, and J15, Stoke-on-Trent, due to the multi vehicle collision.
"West Midlands Ambulance Service and Central Motorway Policing Group on scene."

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service
Crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.
A spokesman said: “Crews were called between junction 14 and 15 to a two vehicle collision. One of the vehicles had left the carriageway and the other remained. Stafford, Eccelshall, and Longton attended. No one was trapped but we made the vehicle and the area safe.”
Highways England
Highways England has confirmed the first two lanes remain shut ‘while recovery takes place’.
Delays expected until 10pm
Traffic England, a service run by Highways England, says one car left the carriageway and delays are expected until around 10pm.
A spokesman said:
The event is expected to clear between 20:45 and 21:00 on 18 February 2019. Normal traffic conditions are expected between 22:00 and 22:15 on 18 February 2019 following an earlier accident.
The service also says lanes one and two are closed.
'Five-car accident'
Two lanes closed and queuing traffic due to five-car accident on M6 Northbound from J14 A34 (Stafford North) to J15 A500 D Road (Stoke-On-Trent). In the roadworks area. Lanes one and two (of three) are closed. All traffic was briefly held for around five minutes.
