A group of migrants, including a toddler, have been detained at a Staffordshire motorway service station this evening.

Three people were arrested at Hilton Park Services, on the M6 in the south of the county, earlier tonight (Thursday February 21).

Among the group was an 18-month-old child, with the family now being taken to a place of safety, according to the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG).

A CMPG spokesman said:  "Three persons suspected of illegal entry to the U.K. have been arrested at Hilton Park Services.

"With the assistance of local Staffordshire Police specials our  CMPG specials are transporting this exhausted family, including 18month old child, to a place of safety."

On Tuesday a police helicopter was deployed after eight people fled from the back of a lorry at Keele Services.

In early January the M6 was also closed after 27 suspected migrants fled from the back of a vehicle on the carriageway, also near Keele.
