Mum Georgina Salmon was found dead on the sofa after taking taking an excessive amount of drugs.

The 43-year-old was discovered by a relative at her home in Wellfield Road, Bentilee, last February.

An inquest into her death at North Staffordshire Coroner's Court heard a post mortem examination found Mrs Salmon died due to a fatal drugs toxicity.

Her step-dad, David Cook, said she suffered a brain injury when she was assaulted in her early 20s and 'was not the same person after that'.

She was sectioned under the Mental Health Act several times and had previously taken overdoses of medication so Mr Cook took her tablets to her each day.

At 7.45am on February 28, Mr Cook took her medication and some breakfast and left it on the end of the sofa as she was asleep.

He returned at 3.30pm and noticed the food and tablets had not been touched and Georgina was still in the same position. He touched her and realised she was dead.

A post mortem examination found Georgina had taken an excessive amount of drugs including dihydrocodeine.

Deputy Coroner Anthony Curzon concluded it was a drugs-related death.

He said: "I feel certain in my own mind it was an accidental death. I am recording it as drug-related.

"She was prescribed the paracetamol. The others were brought in by a third party. That person has not been traced. I am satisfied this was a drug-related death."
