Police are appealing for help after a man died when he became trapped under a HGV.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A51 Nantwich Bypass near Wistaston at around 11.20am on Friday following reports of a serious incident.

On arrivals crew found Nantwich man John Huntbach, aged 76, had become trapped beneath the vehicle, but nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

John's family have been informed and are being supported by specialist police officers.

A spokesman for the family said: "It is great sadness that John Huntbach died in a tragic incident. John was a much loved husband, dad and grandad and we ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time."

A joint police and Health & Safety Executive investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "As part of the investigation officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any dashcam footage of the scene between 10.15am and 11.20am.
